Data Cable Co. Lands Deal with Canadian Armed Forces

Posted on Fri, Jan 31, 2014

ORANGEVILLE, Ont.—Data Cable is proud to announce a $1.89 million subcontract with General Dynamics Land Systems to support an updated fleet of light armoured vehicles for the Canadian Armed Forces.

“The partnership demonstrates our continued support of our brave men and women in uniform and skilled Canadian workers—including right here in Orangeville,” said the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Associate Minister of National Defence. “Our investments will provide our troops with the modern equipment they need to conduct their missions safely and effectively for many decades to come while supporting Canadian workers across the country.”

The Light Armoured Vehicle III Upgrade Project is one of four combat vehicle projects that were announced by the Government of Canada this year. The upgrade will use evolving technology to improve mobility, protection and lethality of the Light Armoured Vehicle III fleet. Ensuring the operation mobility, protection and tactical agility of the combat vehicles, they will remain the backbone of the expeditionary and domestic task forces, as well as expand the vehicles life span to 2035.

Data Cable and General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada have been working with each other for over 15 years. Data Cable supplied cables on the original Light Armoured Vehicle—Armoured Personal Carrier build of 650 vehicles.

“We have worked very diligently over the years to earn the faith and trust of General Dynamics. They recognize our reliability and quality as very important to their success in each project,” said Paul Nelson, President of Data Cable. “We are honoured to have been awarded this important contract.”

Data Cable will be providing high quality custom cable and wiring harnesses to the Light Armoured Vehicle III fleet. These cables will be used in the turret and chassis to power the vehicle subsystems.

“The assemblies we are making vary from power distribution components, similar to a battery cable in a car, to fairly complex vehicle control and monitoring harnesses. All of our cables are built to Military specifications and standards,” said David Gillies, Development Manager at Data Cable
